Most of the plugins available on Wordpress.org are either too simple, insecure or do not support reCAPTCHA which in my opinion is by far the best and most useful CAPTCHA service out there.

After a lot of research I found the "Secure Form Mailer Plugin" by Dagon Design. Many thanks to @lewayotte (blog, website) and @glennansley for the pointers.
